A Lost Memory (2nd creative writing)

William and Rose were a couple who had just moved in together. Their relationship wasn’t easy, especially because William had a very hard time opening himself up. That’s probably the reason why it took them three years to get together.

One day, while cleaning the closet, Rose found a painting. It was the painting of a blue door.

Nothing else. Just a blue door.

She was intrigued. She wanted to know the significance of that painting. Most of all, she wanted to know why William had that painting and why he kept it in the closet.

So when William got home, she asked him about it.

William told her that he made that painting when he was in Santorini, Greece. When he was there, he saw a house with a blue door and he didn’t know why, but he couldn’t stop staring at it. He couldn’t stop picturing what might be on the other side. He pictured love, happiness, safety and peace. All the things he didn’t have. All the things he had lost. So he painted the door so that he could have a little of that feeling. That way he could look at the painting whenever he felt bad and think about all those good things life could bring. Rose was amazed by what he told her.

A few days later, Rose had an idea. She called an artist, friend of hers and told him about her idea. The next day, after William left for work, the artist put the idea into practice.

At the end of the day, when William left work, he found his girlfriend leaning against his car. When he asked her what she was doing there, she told him she wanted to show him a surprise she had for him at home, so she would be the one driving.

When they were close to their house, Rose told William to close his eyes and not open them, no matter what.

She parked the car outside their house and told him to get out. Then she held his hand and told him to open his eyes. When he did, he saw it: the blue door. It was right there in front of him. His house now had a blue door.

Rose told him that now he knew what was on the other side of the door. Now he knew for sure that on the other side he’d find love, happiness, safety and peace. He had all those things now. He had her.

William held her in his arms and for the thousandth time asked himself what he ever did to deserve someone like her.

A few days later, William entered the bedroom and saw the blue door painting on the wall. When he asked Rose about it, she told him that she thought that he might want to hang it there, but he told her that he didn’t need it anymore. He didn’t need to look at that painting and imagine what was behind that door anymore. Thanks to her, he now knew what was on the other side.

He looked at the painting one last time and then turned around. And as he left the room, it fell to the floor.

=D Very good!
I liked the way you captured the essence of security in a couple.

The detail of mention the blue houses in Greece and how it makes us wonder what’s behind is wonderful too.

Kiss* Good Work
